There’s no doubt that big data will need big technology behind it. The research firm Forrester expects the big data market to grow three times faster than the rest of the technology market for the next five years. Opportunities for value-added resellers (VARs) will come not only because of the size of the market but also because big data requires changes in technology and therefore changes in what customers need.
Making sales will require understanding both the technical trends and the customers. Today’s data centers are more driven by business needs, with “data center as a service” pushing organizations to be more agile, adaptive and responsive to business requirements. There may be some growth in IT budgets, but at least one survey shows both spending and staffinng flat. As a result, there’s both a need and an opportunity to help customers find the value in the new technology and new trends.
